Product Discovery and Business Case
The PM turns the initial request into a testable product opportunity and an investment decision framework.
AegisShield Web Application Firewall · Discovery stage
AegisShield, BookEasy, the people, findings and decisions are fictional and created for portfolio demonstration.
Business opportunity
AegisShield wants to evaluate a second product that complements its existing SIEM service. The AegisShield Firewall would inspect incoming requests to customer web applications and apply configured protection rules through a dedicated administration panel.
The target customer hypothesis is a business with a web application and limited internal security capacity. This is an assumption to test, not a verified market result.
Discovery questions
The team needs to understand what protection customers already use, which problems remain unresolved, who configures rules, who investigates incorrect blocks, what would justify another service and who makes the purchasing decision.
Alternatives to evaluate
| Option | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Continue with current protection | Does the existing service already meet the customer need? |
| Buy or resell an existing service | Would a partner offer a faster and safer path? |
| Build around an established security engine | Can AegisShield own the customer experience without building detection from zero? |
| Develop a proprietary engine | Is the additional technical and operational risk justified? |
Decision criteria
Recommend a limited development stage only if discovery identifies a clear customer problem, a credible reason to choose the AegisShield Firewall, a feasible technical approach and an acceptable estimate of costs and risks.
